The Mill Creek wind farm owned and operated by Meridian Energy in the Ohariu Valley near Wellington, New Zealand has 26 turbines generating 60 MW of electricity and producing enough electricity each year for about 34,000 average New Zealand homes. The civil works were procured using an NEC3 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) option C (target contract with activity schedule), while the electrical balance of plant works and transmission line were procured using ECC option A (priced contract with activity schedule). The NZ$33 million (£17 million) civil works were undertaken by Higgins Contractors, which had already successfully delivered infrastructure at three of New Zealand’s largest wind farms, including Meridian’s Te Apiti and West Wind projects.
